General Information FAQ
Q. What are the geographic boundaries of Sycamore Baseball and Softball Association?
A. You must live in the Sycamore School District to play for an SBSA team. Players wishing to play with SBSA but living outside the geogpraphic borders must obtain a waiver from the Knothole District Representatives. Contact a Board Member for more information.
Q. Can my child "play up" in a division with older players?
A. Yes, you can request that your child "play up" a division. Decisions regarding "playing up" are made on a case-by-case basis with SBSA Board having the final call.
Q. How are players selected for the Knothole Competitive Teams?
A. The selections are based on a tryout/evaluation process that takes place during the summer after the season is over.
Q. Will Competitive teams be available for all Knothole divisions?
A. Competitive team availability is based on demand and available coaches. However, competitive teams are typically not formed until the players reach 5th grade or the C-1 division of play. If you are interested in forming a Knothole competitive team, contact a member of the SBSA Board.
Q. Are there options for 16 to 18 year olds (AA) to play Knothole baseball?
A. SBSA does not formally sponsor Knothole teams for children older than 15. However, we will facilitate forming independant knothole teams for 16-18 year olds. Our AA league coordinator Paul Jahn will be putting together information regarding the AA teams that will be put on the Baseball Leagues FAQ page in early 2010. Check back for more information.
Q. When will I be notified about what team my child is playing on?
A. The baseball draft ocurs in mid-February so you should hear from your coach around the 1st of March with information regarding your team. If you haven't heard anything by mid-March, please email the League Coordinator for your league as listed on the SBSA Board page.
Q. What about the Instructional league? How are teams formed?
A. The Instructional league is run a bit differently than the rest of the association. Instructional clinics and games take place on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Blue Ash Sports Center beginning on the 3rd Saturday in April. You will be assigned a coach, but will probably not hear from that coach until late March.
